MUSICALS

All the world's a mall in this totally awesome blend of Shakespeare and John Hughes. A heartwarming romp that begs the question, how far would YOU go for your first love?

I also kept a blog when we went to Europe for the Cardiff International Festival of Musical Theatre. Tasty.

A wickedly funny and bitterly heartfelt concert featuring the songs of Dan Acquisto and Sammy Buck, everyone's favorite second choice for Broadway, off-Broadway, film and TV jobs. Sammy and Dan give you their tell-all and show you what it's like to persevere, while five very talented performers sing songs about misadventures in love and work, and never winning a certain performing arts foundation grant each year.

“We are in a world that even while it may look like New York in 2006, probably is better known to the likes of Samuel Beckett and James Joyce, masters of the modern psyche and probable inadvertent spiritual fathers to this wondrous dance musical."

Yep - that was from a review of Common Grounds, the dance musical in NYMF for which I wrote the book. A friend of one of the dancers thought it was Pinter. Um, yeah.

Unforeseen consequences of lost love echo tragically across generations.

From director Elizabeth Lucas, this is a majorly cool triptych of short sci-fi films, all interrelated (I'm the middle section - so I get to be The Empire Strikes Back). The first section is by Alex Goldberg, the third by Erin Hill. We shot it last winter/spring. Producers: Elizabeth Lucas, Brad Rubenstein, Julie Miller. Check it out on the imdb.

Because when you hear the words "Sammy Buck," you think of a horror movie. Seriously, wrote it. We shot it in 18 days in August. You must check out the website. It was an incredible experience, and the fabulous footage is currently being edited. Oh - what's it about, you may ask? Hmmm, maybe you should check out our entry on the IMDB! Okay, quick logline: It's a Scavenger Hunt among college students in New York that turns, well, um, deadly... and an agoraphobic freshman has to join the hunt to save her boyfriend's life.

SONGS

Dan Acquisto, my composer, and I, have written together since the year 2000, when Bobby Lopez and Jeff Marx introduced us at the BMI Workshop. We wrote Like You Like It (here's a direct link to our songs page), as well as a slew of songs that are NOT 80s pop. Here are some samples:

FREE AS A... is about two macaws, an uptight teen and a irrepressibly irresponsible washed-up singer. Here, the older one passes on some wisdom to the younger one. Vocals: Jonathan Monk, Tom Richter.

AUNT EVELYN'S INSPIRATIONAL ADVICE is based on an actual conversation an older aunt had with me about my career. It was so shocking I had to write a song about it. Vocal: Jane Smulyan.

WE JEL is a wacky, glee-club look at checks and balances in the U.S. government, geared toward kids 8 - 12. Vocals: Scott Denny, James Donegan, Clark Sayre.

I NEVER KNEW is a song a couple commissioned from us for their anniversary. Vocal: James Donegan.
